What would YOU have done in Nazi Germany had you known about the concentration camps? You actually know the answer. You are doing it now.
We criticize the German people for doing nothing, but maybe now we understand the situation better. We aren't sure what's happening. We don't know what to do. We are busy with the demands of daily life. And maybe we are just scared.
Because violent totalitarian regimes can be scary. Still, we understand enough about the situation to be outraged, and we CAN do something. Whether we are effective or not, we have a moral obligation to try to impede and end crimes against humanity. We cannot wait for government officials or others to stop this and save us. If they cared (and could), they would have done so long before today. This is up to us—the sensible, caring people. The people who do all the work. The people who are supposed to be sovereign.
Only WE can do this.
What's Happening?
The crimes of this regime and the systems that underlie it are known. We know that ICE terrorists are sent into our communities to assault, kidnap and sometime murder mostly brown people. We know that, like earlier Nazis, the victims are selected by racial profiling.
We know that people suspected of being illegal brown immigrants are imprisoned in private for-profit facilites owned and operated by CoreCivic and GEO Corporation. They hold government contracts, paid for by our tax dollars, to commit crimes against humanity. Mass murder is very profitable. Each of those corporations has government contracts for $1 billion.
In the bigger picture, we are being ruled by a small elite group of child-raping billionaires who own both the government and the biggest corporations. This is all in the Epstein files, and even the heavily redacted portion already released makes this quite clear.
Names are named, and we don't expose these vicious criminals enough so, in addition to the rapist-in-chief, I'll repeat the names of some of the known members of this group here: Jes Staley. Leon Black, Steven Tisch, Howard Lutnick, Elon Musk.
Now back to the concentration camps.
The concentration camps currently imprison more than 77,000 people—possibly many more. They are mostly concealed from any oversight. Few are allowed in and even then under very controlled conditions. In other words, just like the original Nazis, today's Nazis try to conceal the extent of their crimes. Mayor Mickie Sherril has been protecting the concentration camps and set her police out to rush, teargas and brutize peaceful protesters literally at the moment they were singing Givie Peac A Chance.
Those who have been inside report horrific conditions. This includes reports of people being fed "food" that is filled with maggots and worms.
This is one reason that 300 (of 900+) prisoners at the Delany Hall concentration camp in New Jersey (run by GEO Corporation) have gone on a labor and hunger strike. A contingent of protesters are at the facility, making much-needed noise and being teargassed, and abused by both federal and state "law enforcement" (sic) officials.
Corporate media is mostly absent but the independent outlet Status Coup News reports from on-site, ofte live. They and similar outlets are what remains of free media in the United States. Journalists from Status Coup have been attacked and injured by those protecting the concentration camps.
Remember Dilley
In Texas, an infamous concentration camp called Dilley holds and abuses children. Pro Publica, another of the credible news sources, placed a Zoom call to the children inside and reported on what they were experiencing inside. You should see it yourself.
How To Save The Victims And Our Souls
People's Movements work. They do not require perfect coordination or unanimous support. In fact, large numbers of people—even not well organized—that represent only a few percent of the population is a very common way that people have overthrown evil systems and despots. In most cases, they are nonviolent. And many times the regime changes isn't "by the book." That is, it is not hampered by the "rules" and "laws" that the regime has in place to protect itself.
Two recent cases WERE done within the system. South Korean president was arrested and jailed after declaring martial law. Massive public protests succeeded in persuading officials to charge and punish the would-be dictator. And, despite altering the Constitution of Hungary to make him and his party all but unbeatable at the polls, massive turnout crushed his chances in the recent election. Orban is done.
But other People's Movements were completely outside any official rules and systems. The Romanians removed Ceaucescu, the Filipinnos ousted Marcos, Sr., and the Serbs removed Milosevic just by not cooperating, making noises, exposing evil acts of the rulers...and using massive ridicule.
(Tyrants have no sense of humor and notoriously thin skin. Odd how they are called "strong men" when they are such pathetic wimps.)
If you can and are so incllined, join and be active in Indivisible.org or fiftyfifty.one.
Or you can decide on doing things by yourself, with your friends, or in small groups. You can:
- Make VISIBLE public dissent.
- Withdraw some cooperation
- Actively impede the fascists
Don't try to do too much. We needs millions of people to do SOMETHING. If these actions are widespread, individualized and high in volume, the regime is helpless to effectively respond. Here's some pretty easy ideas.
Put up flyers and stickers. Pick something that's really evil and urge others to perform similar acts. I've produced stickers that spotlight the CHILDREN in the Dilley CONCENTRATION CAMP in Texas. Those torture camps are about as unambiguously evil as you can get.
I also, from time to time, walk across town holding a sign high that, on both sides, call for the removal of the fascist regime.
You can even just put a sign in your window. Maybe one that says "CLOSE THE CONCENTRATIONS CAMPS. DILLEY. DELANY HALL. ALL of them!"
You can slash spending—which is probably a good idea nowadays with plutocrats raising prices and cutting jobs—and move spending to small local businesses. I closed my Amazon account and deleted the app. Many easy things to do and some that have ONGOING effects.
IF you do work that helps the fascists or have riends, relative or other loved oes who do, you can "quiet quit" and urge others to do the same. If you are particularly gutsy, you can actively sabotage the fascist regime from within.
Or, if you are in the position to do so, outright quit.
Think hard about what you can and should do. Then do it. Encourage others. This doesn't need to take over your life. But help dissent grow and spread. We can defeat the fascists and we are already doing many of the right things.
Let's keep going. Help our local communities. Crush evil.
